FAQ

Q: Will we be reimbursed for our work on the FirstSchool Online Course?
A: Yes, Regional Liaisons will receive a stipend up to $2500.

Q: How do we cover our costs from the May 2-3 training at McKnight?
A: Liaisons will be reimbursed for your expenses (except food). We will send you an expense form that you will complete and send to MDE. This amount will be subtracted from the $2500 stipend.

Q: When do we receive the stipend?
A: We will probably have two periods in the fall (e.g., October and December) when stipends can be claimed. If you claimed $300 in expenses from May 2-3, then you would be eligible for a stipend up to $2200 (e.g., $1100 in October and December).

Q: Do I receive the stipend or my district?
A: This depends on district policy or standards of practice. Consult with your business manager or appropriate administrator. Stipends can either go to you or to your district.

Q: Can my district cover my expenses from May 2-3?
A: They may, depending on district policy. Some districts may give permission for hotel and mileage expenses since the expenses are going toward the professional development of a district employee. Again, you will want to consult with your business manager or appropriate administrator.

Q: How do I get started?
MDE has made changes to how it will make reimbursement payments for your travel, meals, substitute pay, and lodging expenses as a PreK-3 Regional Liaison. Due to very recent changes in MDE contracts and payments, MDE will only be able to issue a contract directly with your school district. Once we have the contract in place with your school district, you will be able to submit your expenses directly to the school district for reimbursement. At the end of the contract period, your school district will bill MDE for payment of your expenses up to $2,500.
